2017 Shiraz Padthaway McLaren-Vale Vineyards

There’s a 1937 duet with Gene Kelly and Ginger Rogers singing,

“… you say “either” & I say “ither” let's call the whole thing off.

& when do you say Shiraz or say Syrah? “Syrah” is the important grape of the Rhone alley in France.

But “Shiraz” is the one of the big boys in Australia. In the Southern hemisphere this varietal is known as Shiraz, but for us Northerners, its Syrah.

Taste=2: This Shiraz was produced in Southern Australia. It is a young red with a red color. The nose comes through as a musty-raspberry and some spice.

It is fruit forward with more black fruit and plum. The finish ends with a light oak tannin. I liked its smooth texture.

Looks=3: I liked the twist-off cap, which gives a buyer choice. Should Idrink-it- now or shelve it awhile. (A composition cork limits a wine’s shelf life.)

The bottle comes with a striking big white label. An Australian postage stamp depicting early delivery mail service across their country; it’s a noted historic reference. Also, a gold-lettered circle notes, “Vintage Long Bottom”. That references a mother and daughter wine company hand crafts wines from this area. The bottle has a deep enough punt for holding and pouring.

The wine pours a deep purple, and has good legs. It was well filtered without sediments.

Cost=2: Another good Australian red that won’t break the bank:

A very drinkable wine affordably priced.
